A post on Twitter has just got me thinking about what commercial software I actually use in school on the PCS and laptops we have and thought it would be helpful if I listed the programs here:
- SMART Notebook (although its really free, you technically need to validate it by putting in the serial number of a SMART Board in school);
- Microsoft Office 2003 (this gets installed as standard on new machines as some form of volume licencing deal in the LA I think);
- Focus on Bee-Bot 2;
- 2Music Toolkit;
- 2Paint a Picture;
- 2Do It Yourself;
- 2Create a Superstory;
- Purple Mash (online subscription);
- Compose World Create;
- Kudlain Pictogram.
And that's it - these applications in addition to a selection of free websites/programs (e.g. Google Sketchup and Edmodo) are all that I use and in my opinion more than enable the children to achieve great things using ICT!
(Of course this list omits a few science/literacy/numeracy CD-ROMs we use and would be very different if we owned any Apple devices but as we don't, it serves us well in my opinion - the only future additions I can foresee are a Microsoft Office upgrade and a consideration into buying some animation software like I Can Animate).
